Gypsy Rose Haygood Skelton

November 20, 1940 — September 23, 2014

Gypsy Rose Haygood Skelton, born November 20, 1940 to Rose (Moseley) and Jack Haygood, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 after a long illness. She was surrounded by loving family who has been faithful to her during her time at Abbey Hospice Center in Social Circle, Georgia. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church, on Lower Thomaston Road, Macon, GA, with Dr. Ben Haygood officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. Ms. Skelton was a lifelong resident of Bibb County where she graduated from Macon schools. Her love for flowers and plants led to a career at Jean and Hall Florist and memberships in various garden clubs around Macon. Gypsy had a strong love for Midway Baptist where she grew up and accepted Christ as a young girl. At Midway, her father was a Deacon and her mother was the church pianist for 30 years. Her family had strong roots to the Midway community. Her love of people, her desire to always help anyone and her excellent cooking skills made her a friend to all who knew and loved her. Oh, how she loved to rock her children and grandchildren when they were babies. This love extended to her nieces and nephews who lovingly called her "Gypie". Her family is certain she was greeted at Heaven's gate by her parents, grandparents as well as her nieces Shelley, Shea and Abby who were all called home before her. Mrs. Skelton is survived by her children, Ann (Bill) Spencer of Athens, Shari English of Macon, and Rob Skelton of Atlanta; grandchildren, Chris (Kristin) Spencer, Kim Spencer and Whitney Skelton; siblings, Charles E. "Buck" (Ellen) Haygood, Jackie (David) Glover, Winnie (Lamar) Tidwell and Ginger (Mike) Turner. She is also survived by other family members, Billy J. English and Susan Skelton and many loving nieces and nephews. Her grand dogs Sara Beth, Gypsy, Sport, Champ, Remington and Ruger were an important part of her life also. Flowers are optional or make donations to The Wounded Warriors Project, Gypsy's preferred charity or the charity of your choice. Register online at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, has charge of arrangements.
