Macon- Grace Smith Wood, 91, went to be with her Lord on January 6, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00AM at Stone Creek Baptist Church in Dry Branch, Georgia with burial in the church cemetery. The family will meet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church. Dr. Donnie Sutton, her pastor for many years, will officiate. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Wood was born April 2, 1918, in Soperton, Georgia to the late Tom and Etta Whitaker. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallie Smith of Soperton and Jones Wood of Dry Branch, six sisters and an infant brother. She was a member of Stone Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood loved and was loved by her family. She had a deep love especially for children, not only her own, but she spent many happy years caring for "her children" at Cross Keys Baptist Church Daycare. Mrs. Wood is survived by daughters, Barnell Barrentine and Betty (Kells) Peebles of Macon; sons, Don (Peggy)Smith of Allentown and Glenn (Pamela) Smith of Loganville; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
