Athens, GA- Grace Juanita Hulett, 86, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Athens, Georgia. Services will be held in Macon on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 1:00PM at Centenary United Methodist Church with graveside service to follow in Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, of which she was a member since 1966. Known as "Pete" to family and friends, Mrs. Hulett was born on February 3, 1924, in Williams Township, Chatham County, North Carolina and grew up in nearby Pittsboro, the youngest daughter of Minnie Louise (Ellis) and William Garland Smith. She played high school basketball with the Pittsboro High School Class of 1941 and she left North Carolina for 49 years of marriage to a handsome World War II soldier she met while working for the American Red Cross, her beloved husband, Henry J. Hulett. Together they lived on several Army posts across the United States and Puerto Rico and raised two sons. The settled in Macon in 1961 and she enjoyed a career of 19 years as a sales associate at Sears, Roebuck and Company, joining the store when it was on Third Street in downtown Macon in 1970 and retiring from the Macon Mall store in 1989. Mrs. Hulett struck up friendships wherever she went and freely shared with all her infectious love of animals, her fond memories of golf, her opinions regarding the fortunes of Atlanta Braves, and her undying devotion to Tarheel basketball. Mrs. Hulett was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Hazel Poe. Survivors include her sons, Butch Hulett (Marty) of Springfield, MO and Skip Hulett (Dana) of Athens, GA; granddaughters, Mary Grace, Koren and Kelley of Athens, GA; sister-in-law, Gladys Newman of Macon; nephews, Buddy Poe (Mary) of St. Louis, MO, Ronnie Poe (Bonnie) of Moncure, NC, Bill Poe of Tennessee, and Joey Hulett (Twila) of Macon; nieces, Sara Hearn (Timmy) of Pittsboro, NC, Debbie Allen (Stan) of Covington, GA, Sonya Spires (Craig) of Macon, and Lisa Hulett of Macon.
