Macon- Gordon Walker Jackson, MD, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2010. Services will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 3:00PM at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Tommy Martin and the Reverend Bill Black officiating. Graveside services will be private. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204 or Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Macon, Georgia 31201. Dr. Jackson was the son of the late John Gordon Jackson and Effie Walker Jackson of Harrison, Georgia. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he completed his education at the Medical College of Georgia, graduating in 1952. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Virginia Methvin "Ginny" Jackson. Together they started a family and settled in Macon. It was here that Dr. Jackson began practicing OB/GYN medicine until his retirement in 1988. As an active participant in the American College of OB/GYN program of service to Native Americans, he traveled to many places including Oklahoma, Montana, New Mexico and Alaska. He especially enjoyed his time in Alaska and returned many times with family and friends. Dr. Jackson was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and the Joy Class. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping and cheering for those Georgia Bulldogs. Dr. Jackson was a loving father and grandfather and a loyal friend. Survivors include his three children, Merrill (Stephen) Carter of Holly Hill, Florida, Benjamin (Renee) Jackson of Jeffersonville, Georgia, and Virginia (Bob) Leftwich of Winter Springs, Florida; five grandchildren, Avril (Mike) Fojtasek, Austin Carter, Nolan Jackson, Ginna and Carly Leftwich; sister, Elmyra Black of Swainsboro, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
