Gloria Thornton Orr

Gloria Thornton Orr, 90, died July 3, 2017 at her home. She was a resident of Carlyle Place. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Vineville United Methodist Church with the Dr. Marcus Tripp and Dr. Jimmy Asbell officiating. A visitation will be held immediately after the service with a private burial at Riverside Cemetery. The family may be contacted at the residence. Mrs. Orr was born September 18, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of the late Hollister Alvin Thornton and Fannie Clary Thornton. She grew up in Decatur Ga. where she attended Decatur Girl's High School. She graduated from Wesleyan College in 1947 with an A.B. in English Literature. She became a certified Medical Technologist and worked at the Macon Hospital and the Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. and for several doctors in both cities. Mrs. Orr was a member of the Junior League of Macon, the Town and Country Garden Club, and a member and past president of the Bibb County Medical Society Alliance. She was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church where she was active in The United Methodist Women. Mrs. Orr was predeceased by her infant son and her brother, Dr. H.A. Thornton of Greensboro, GA. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Dr. William W. Orr, of Macon; their five children, their spouses, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Sons, Dr. William W. Orr Jr. (Vicki) and children Sarah, Billy and John of Athens, GA; David T. Orr (Trish) and children Amanda Cook and Chris Gillstrap of Jacksonville, FL; Dr. T. Edward Orr (Viviana) and children Adrienne, Julia, and Thomas of Martinez, GA; James A. Orr (Elizabeth) and children Allen, Albert, and Clark of Madison, GA; daughter, Gloria Faye Orr of Pittsboro, N.C.; brother, Stanley C.
