Geri Peterson of Macon, Georgia, went to be with her Heavenly Father and her family on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She is survived by her daughters, Laurie McManus English (Don) of Macon, GA, and Linda McManus Camp (deceased Norman) Griffin, Georgia; grandchildren: Stephen Donovan English, Ashley Marie English, and Jessica Leigh Parham (Billy); great grandchildren, Addison and Connor Parham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her son, John Michael McManus and husband, Clarence Douglas Peterson is at home in Heaven, and she has waited to join them. Her little dogs, Ginny and Cassie predeceased her also. They all were so special! Geri loved all of her wonderful pets.
Mrs. Peterson was the daughter of the late Leon Oreston Gunter and Estelle Raley Gunter, and granddaughter of the late John Samuel Raley and Hattie Hicks Raley. Her paternal grandparents were the late Howard Murray Gunter and Cora Gunter of Pitts, Georgia. Derek Kincaid English, grandson, was taken to Heaven by the Angels in 1989. Geri was predeceased in death by her first husband, John Dunwody McManus of Macon.
Geri Peterson was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and the Woodruff Sunday School Class. She served on several church committees.
Mrs. Peterson was a Master Flower Show Judge, Emeritus and a member of National Garden Club, Inc., a member of Middle Georgia Council of Flower Show Judges, Past President of Pine Ridge Garden Club and Designer's Critique. She was past President and Life Member of Federated Garden Clubs of Macon, Inc. as well as a member of the Executive Board, and a member of Camellia District, Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. She also served on the Board of Directors and Conservation Chairman of The Garden Club of Georgia. Geri loved going to UGA in Athens, Georgia to attend the Garden Club of Georgia Symposium, keeping her Master Certificate in good standing. Flower Show, where she exhibited and judged, brought her so much pleasure.
Geri Peterson worked for several doctors during her life. She retired in 1997 as Administrator of Macon Industrial Medicine, Macon Northside Hospital. She was a member of Coliseum Senior Group and served as a volunteer for several organizations and schools.
Geri had many wonderful friends in the McDonald’s and Burger King's Breakfast Club. Geri loved to travel. She had many trips with late husband, Doug. She especially loved Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Geri was devoted to her family, her animals, friends and loved her church and her Lord.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, with Reverend James Keith Goodlett officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, North Gate.
Flowers will be accepted, but those wishing to may make a donation to any Animal Rescue Organization.
