George E. "Peewee" Byrd

George E. “Peewee” Byrd, 90, of Macon, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021.  A Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2021, at Hart’s on Cherry Street, with a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.. Interment will follow the service at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens.

Mr. Byrd was born in Mount Vernon, Georgia and then moved to Macon with his family for work at the Bibb Mills.  He graduated from Lanier High School in 1948, and then entered the United States Navy the next year. After proudly serving his country, Mr. Byrd went to work for Bell South phone company. He married his wife, Anita, in 1950 and together they raised three children.  He was a longtime member of Shurlington Baptist Church.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Anita Weaver Byrd; sons, David Byrd, of Jones County, Georgia; Tommy Byrd (Evelyn), of Centerville, Georgia and daughter, Lisa McDonald (Tom), of Port Orange, Florida; seven grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd Denmark Byrd, Mattie Lee Hughs Byrd, and six siblings.
