Mr. George Marstella Nottingham, Jr., 99, of Macon, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Funeral services will be at First Presbyterian Church in Macon on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00PM, with the Reverend Chip Miller and the Reverend Parker Agnew officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the church Gathering Place. Private burial will be at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Nottingham left Lanier High School in 1943 to attend Georgia Tech. From there, he was recruited to enroll in the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater until the end of World War Two, as well as in the Mediterranean theater in the Korean War. Between his wartime deployments, Mr. Nottingham married Jeannette Schofield in 1948. Later, Mr. Nottingham graduated from Georgia Tech with an engineering degree, and in1960, he started his own engineering firm, Nottingham, Brook and Pennington in downtown Macon. In 1995, Mr. Nottingham retired to enjoy his mountain home. He was a history buff and loved playing golf in his spare time. A faithful Christian, Mr. Nottingham will be remembered as an exceptional man who lived out his faith in service to others throughout his entire life.
Mr. Nottingham is preceded in death by his parents, George and Zera Nottingham; sister, Frances Zera Nottingham Smallwood; and son-in-law, John Raymond Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Jeannette “Jeanne” S. Nottingham; sons, Wilfred Allen Nottingham (Grace) of Atlanta, Georgia, and George M. Nottingham, III (Ellie) of Macon; daughter, Kelly Nottingham Pierce of Atlanta; grandchildren, Mary Beth Nottingham, of Yorktown, Virginia, Theresa Nottingham Walsh (Phil) of Atlanta, Jeannette Nottingham Martin (Chase) of Birmingham, Alabama, Kathryn Marie Nottingham Widstrom (Gray) of Macon, Michael Allen Nottingham of Macon, Abigail Pierce Trumper (Paul) of Exeter, New Hampshire, and Taylor Schofield Pierce (Caroline) of Woodstock, Georgia; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces.
Jeanne asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First 4 All Building Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Macon, 682 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201, continuing the vision fund of the church.
