George McGregor "Greg" Jordan, Jr.

February 3, 1944 — October 16, 2025

Macon

George McGregor “Greg” Jordan Jr., 81, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on October 16, 2025, in North Carolina while on vacation with his wife and his dearest and oldest friends.

Greg lived his life with curiosity, humor, and a love of good conversation. After graduating in 1961 from Lanier High School, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy before graduating from the University of Washington. He spent a beloved summer working at a physics lab at the University of Wisconsin, crafting precision lenses for a bubble chamber and dreaming of a life spent exploring the fundamental forces of nature. Though law would eventually win out over physics, Greg never stopped being fascinated by how the world worked and never lost his wonder at the universe’s many mysteries.

After graduation, his adventurous spirit took him to Paris, where he learned French, taught English at NATO headquarters, and played guitar in a band. He then spent six months on the Greek island of Tinos, perfecting his guitar skills while subsisting almost entirely on canned tuna—the only item he could reliably identify in a grocery store where he could neither speak nor read the language. Though he eventually returned to the States, Paris kept a piece of his heart, and he delighted in returning to visit with his wife, children, and friends throughout his life.

After coming home to the U.S., Greg followed his friend Jim Carson’s lead and went to Mercer Law School—as he told it, mainly because he was jealous that Jim got Fridays off. As a lawyer, Greg clerked for the Georgia Supreme Court and built a distinguished career in Macon, serving as president of the Macon-Bibb Bar Association and on the board of governors for the Georgia State Bar.

In retirement, Greg found happiness in golf, long conversations with friends, playing guitar with his son (who inherited his father's musical soul), shooting pool with his wife, and spending time with his daughter and his beloved grandchildren. He was particularly proud of his invitation to join the Palaver IV group, where he finally had the captive audience he'd always wanted for his speeches, stories, and that irrepressible love of conversation.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Gerry, and his sister, Janean. He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children, McGregor and Chelsea “CJ” (wife Tatiana); his grandchildren, Rosalyn and Parker; and his brother, Charlie, who will never forget the joy and curiosity he brought into their lives.

A reception and sharing of stories will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the home of David and Katherine Kalish at 4800 North Mumford Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Otis Redding Foundation, honoring Greg’s lifelong love of music and the Macon community he held so dear.
