George Raymond Hughes

George Raymond Hughes, 85, of 724 Winchester Circle, died Thursday, September 19, 2013. Services will be held in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2:00PM with Pastor Rich Dewees and Pastor John Latimer officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Northside Christian Church, 5024 Northside Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210. Mr. Hughes was a member of Northside Christian Church. He loved gardening, working in his yard and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a member of the Exchange Club. Born in Howell, Georgia, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his parents, Willie George Hughes and Florence Rentz Hughes, his sister, Lounette Davis and brother, Billy Hughes. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after forty-two years of service and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Imogene Hughes; daughter, Cheryl Dukes (Ted) of Tyrone, Georgia; son, George Raymond "Ray" Hughes, Jr. (Pam) of Sharpsburg, Georgia; grandchildren, Tyler Dukes, Turner Hughes and Tanner Hughes; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
