George "Mac" Cone, of blessed memory, died in Madison, Alabama on June 17, 2016 following an extended illness. Services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with the Reverend Douglas S. Cone officiating. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at the funeral home. Mr. Cone, son of the late John Valentine Cone and the late Annie Laurie Harrison Cone, was born August 17, 1932 in Madison, Georgia. He attended Lanier High School in Macon, Georgia. Mr. Cone, a veteran of the United States Navy, served on the USS Pickaway during the Korean War and then as a submariner on the USS Tench. He retired from the United States Postal Service following a career of dedicated service in various supervisory capacities. Mr. Cone was predeceased by his brothers, John W. Cone, Harry N. Cone, Jack T. Cone, Joe Bob Cone and Douglas A. Cone. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He served with pride on the Fort Hawkins Commission board as a representative who attended Fort Hawkins Elementary School. He was a loving husband to his wife, Sylvia, for fifty nine years and was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Mr. Cone is survived by his wife, Sylvia Collins Cone of Madison, Alabama; daughter, Tina (Adam) Tarbox of Madison, Alabama; brothers, Walker A. Cone of Tacoma, Washington and Ronnie Cone of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren, Xavier Tarbox of Macon, Georgia and Mei-Ling Tarbox of Madison, Alabama, and many nieces and nephews.
