Gene Holcomb

H.E. "Gene" Holcomb passed away on January 18, 2015 in St. Mary's, Georgia. Memorial services will be held in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00PM, with Dr. Ben Haywood officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lottie Moon Mission Offering, First Baptist Church Kingsland, 295 East Chester Street, Kingsland, Georgia 31548. Mr. Holcomb was born in Marietta, Georgia to the late Julius Newton Holcomb and the late Cleona Elizabeth Rainey Holcomb. During his time in Macon, he served as the Executive Director of the Macon Water Authority (1988-2002). He was also a 50 year member of the Atlanta Water Works Association (AWWA). He was a member of Vineville North (Northway) Baptist Church. Gene took great pride in his charity works and spreading the word of Jesus. He did this through many organizations: The Lottie Moon Mission Offering, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Kairos Prison Ministry, the Walk to Emmaus and Water for People, traveling to Honduras to help build water systems. Mr. Holcomb was predeceased by his brother, Robert Holcomb. Survivors include his wife 0f 54 years, Ann Bethune Holcomb; children, Libba Holcomb Griffin (Phil), Dr. Bill Holcomb, and Julie Holcomb Hayley (Ian); and grandchildren, Dylan Griffin (Brittany), Gaines Griffin, and Emma Hayley; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.
