Garnell Mcafee Horwitz

Garnell McAfee Horwitz, 86, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2025.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street. Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

Garnell was born in Soperton, Georgia on September 14, 1938, to the late Garner Felton McAfee and Emily Mae Carter McAfee. A devoted wife and mother, Garnell's unwavering love and care for her husband, David, and her son, "Dee," were the cornerstones of her life. Her commitment to Dee was particularly profound, as she supported him and his involvement with the Special Olympics, a cause close to her heart.

Her various interests included reading, genealogy and gardening.  She spent the past several years traveling to remote courthouses and cemeteries collecting genealogy records to document her family’s history.

Survivors include her brother, Felton D. McAfee, Jr. (Cecelia) of Texas; and nephew, Chris C McAfee of Macon.

In addition to her parents, Garnell was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Lewis Horwitz, Sr.; son, David Lewis “Dee” Horwitz, Jr; brothers, Emory C. McAfee and PFC Felton D. McAfee, Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Gloria McAfee of Macon and Virginia Horwitz of Buford, Georgia.
