Frederick J. Sankey

Macon- Mr. Frederick J. Sankey, 74, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola at 11:00AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.

Mr. Sankey, husband of Linda Mills Sankey, was born in Chartiers Township in Washington County, Pennsylvania on February 16, 1936. He was the son of the late Frederick Sankey, Sr. and the late Nancy Miller Sankey. Mr. Sankey graduated from Chartiers Township High School on May 31, 1954, and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a patriot who kept his Marine Corps "Corps Values" throughout his life. He spent much of his time as a Marine in Port Lyautey, Morocco and enjoyed sharing his experiences as a Marine in Morocco.

Frederick was a devoted father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Mark Sankey (Vivian) of Washington, Pennsylvania, daughter, Joan Sankey Worswick (Charles) of Algonac, Michigan, and son, Stephen Bell. His grandchildren include Theodore Sankey, Chace and Ciera Crowell, and Eli and Madelin Bell. He is also survived by a sister, Kathleen Wisniansky and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Nanette (Pat) Arceri.

Frederick was the Superintendent of Public Workers for Akron, New York and served as President of the New York Municipal Electric Utilities Association. Frederick was also active in numerous service organizations, including the Lions' Club and Rotary and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 559 in Akron. He worked as the Utilities Director for Fort Valley, Georgia before coming to Macon to work for Tribble and Richardson as a Vice President. He retired from Stantec.
