Frederick Walsh Baker

Frederick Walsh Baker, 92, of 128 Augusta Ave., Macon, Ga., died Friday, June 30, at his daughter's home in Orlando, Fla., after an extended illness. The oldest of four children, he was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Birch River, W.Va., to Emmett E. Baker and Lydia Agnes Tinnell Baker. Baker enlisted in the Army Aug. 13, 1940, and served as a cook, rifleman, truck driver and mechanic in the continental U.S. After World War II, he worked as an airplane and automotive mechanic at Warner Robbins (Ga.) Air Force Base, where he retired from civil service in 1977. He also worked as an airplane mechanic at Herbert Smart Airport. On May 18, 1941, Baker married Anna Vaughan Pell, of Macon, Ga., who preceded him in death Feb. 1, 1981. They had four children: Posy (and Tom) Lough of Murray, Ky.; Marie Larmouth of Cypress, Texas; Ceil (and Wesley) Humphreys of Orlando, Fla.; and Evelyn Baker of Macon, Ga. In addition to all of his children, Baker is survived by a brother, Earl Baker of Cookeville, Tenn., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Baker, of Macon, Ga., and sister Adelaide Baker Coen of Birch River, West Virginia. A graveside memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Saturday, July 28, at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Labre Indian School, P.O. Box 216, Ashland, Mont., 59003.
