Freddie William Evans, Jr., age 85, departed this life on December 19, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Jeffersonville Cemetery with the Reverend Hal Weidman officiating. Mr. Evans was a lifelong resident of Macon and was educated at Lanier High School and graduated from Mercer University in 1950. He received a Master's Degree from the University of Georgia in Rehabilitation Counseling. Mr. Evans was a retired employee of the Georgia Department of Education and Human Resources. He was Director of Career Planning and Placement and Instructor of Human Services at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia. He served as Executive Director of Bibb County Senior Citizens, Inc. In the summer of 1947 he served on the USS Battleship Wisconsin on a Midshipman's Cruise to Norway, Scotland, England, and Cuba. In the fall of 1947 he entered the Mercer ROTC program, and was a founder and charter member of the National Honor Society of Scabbard and Blade. In June 1950 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Army in Europe for three years. He graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College and completed thirty years in the United States Reserve Forces and retired with the rank of Colonel. Mr. Evans was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as a Vestryman and Acolyte Director. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow in the Rotary Club of Macon, and was a former Palaver Club IV founding member, and a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He is survived by his wife, Mariann Chappell Evans; daughter, Margaret Porter (Christopher) of Concord, New Hampshire; son, John F. Evans of Atlanta; brother, John Maurice Evans (Martha) of Alexandria, Virginia; and a niece and nephew. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Chappell Evans and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Evans, Sr. of Macon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to donor's favorite charity. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
