Fred Stofer

Fred Stofer, 67, died Sunday, April 24, 2011. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00AM at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the Reverend Frank Harris and Reverend Jimmy Towson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be between 5:00-7:00PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Stofer requested that donations be made directly to the organ fund at Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Fred Stofer was born on March 25, 1944, and he grew up on a farm in northwestern Ohio. Fred graduated from Stryker High School in 1962, and then pursued and received a BS degree in English at Bowling Green State University in 1967. While at BGSU, he played in the University Marching Band, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. From 1967 until 1972, Fred taught English at Ross High School, Fremont, Ohio. In June 1972, he entered on duty as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and over the next 27 years, he was stationed at Jackson, Mississippi; Atlanta, Georgia; Rome, Georgia; New York City; and finally Macon, Georgia, where he remained until his retirement from the Bureau on January 1, 1999. He worked as a private investigator and contractor until recently. Fred was very proud to be associated with the fine men and women of the Macon Lions Club and he treasured the friendships he found with them. Fred also sang in the Forest Hills United Methodist Church choir from 1982 until his death. In 1974, he met and married Sally Jean Dye of Great Falls, South Carolina. Sally and Fred were married for 36 years and their children, Susan (Major Brian) Chandler of Arlington, Virginia and John (Kristi) of Arlington, Virginia will miss him very much. A passion of Fred and Sally's was visiting their grandchildren, Jack, and Abigail.
