Frank Rowland Trowbridge, Jr.

Frank Rowland Trowbridge, Jr., age 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 6th. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, September 13th, at 11 am with the Reverend Brian Henson officiating. A graveside service will be at Riverside Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be held at Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, September 12th. Mr. Trowbridge was born in Blackville, South Carolina on June 5, 1922 to the late Frank Rowland Trowbridge Sr. and the late Nellie Rebecca Ray Trowbridge. He was a student at Clemson University in 1943 when he entered the Army on June 15, 1943, as an Infantryman. He deployed to the European Theater of Operations at Marseille, France on December 8, 1944. He was wounded on January 14, 1945 and received the Purple Heart. His other decorations and awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Trowbridge was later assigned as a musician touring with the USO band which included the young vocalist Tony Bennett. Upon being discharged as a Corporal, he returned to Clemson to complete a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1947. He moved to Macon and began working for the J. M. Huber Corporation. During his 40 year career, he was awarded several patents for process improvements in the kaolin business. After retirement, he provided volunteer technical expertise to developing countries through the International Executive Services Corps. As an avid supporter of The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Mr. Trowbridge served as a Scoutmaster of Vineville United Methodist Church Troop 19 and later as a volunteer for the BSA Central Georgia Council. Mr. Trowbridge was honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to the Central Georgia Council. He was a man of many talents and interests. As an apiarist, he supplied many families with honey and the occasional removal of bee swarms. He had a love for woodworking. As a musician, he played double bass as a sideline profession for over 25 years, often playing in local jazz groups and the symphonic orchestra. Mr. Trowbridge held memberships in the American Rose Society, the American Camellia Society, and the American Orchid Society. As a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, he served numerous years on the vestry and was a church choir member for over 60 years. Mr. Trowbridge was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Josephine Walker Trowbridge. Survivors include daughter Rebecca Ann Koesters (Mark) of Beavercreek, OH; and sons Frank Rowland Trowbridge III of Macon, GA; and William Howard Trowbridge (Candy) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, William Stuart Trowbridge (Barret), Carlene Lynn Trowbridge, Edward Louis Koesters, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Eleanor Marguerite Guess of Denmark, SC; sister-in-law Nona Claire Trowbridge of Monroe, NC; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James Norman Trowbridge and sister Sarah Katherine Rion.
