Frank Edward Craven, 88, has passed away on September 26, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Harriette Simmons officiating. Family will greet friends during a reception in the Cloister Room after the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, Georgia 31201. Mr. Craven was born August 29, 1926 in Oswego, New York. He was a veteran of the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant. He served during World War II in the Pacific, stationed in Honolulu. He graduated from University of Georgia in 1951 with a degree in Forestry and was a member of Xi Sigma Pi, an Honorary Forestry Fraternity. Mr. Craven began his career with the Georgia Forestry Commission after graduating college. He was Chief of Information and Education at the commission from 1956 until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Craven was a member of Kiwanis since 1963 and was named Outstanding Kiwanian by the Ingleside Kiwanis Club in 1971, elected Governor of Kiwanis for Georgia, and named a Distinguished Kiwanis Governor by Kiwanis International in 1979. Mr. Craven was selected as State Forest Conservationist of the Year in 1967. He received a national award from the United States Forest Service for Forest Fire Prevention in 1972, and was named an Honorary Farmer by the FFA Organization in 1976. He was awarded a plaque for Excellence in the Profession by the Southeast Society of American Foresters in 1982, and named a Fellow by the Society of American Foresters, one of just a few in the south in 1987. Mr. Craven was a long-time member of Christ Episcopal Church where he was a senior warden of the Vestry, taught Sunday School, and was a lay reader for many years. Mr. Craven was a beloved Husband and Father. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Ray Craven and Rose LeBlanc Craven; and brother, Samuel Moors. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mildred Morgan Craven; children, Karen Rose Maurizi (Charles) and Valerie Diane Hartz (Eldo); grandchildren, Wolfgang Hartz, Jessie Rose Hartz, and Caitlin Vadini (Tony); great grandchildren, Aurora Rose Vadini, and Roman Vadini; and sister, Elaine Richards (William).
