Frances Weglarz Sokolowski, 93 of Macon, died Saturday, August 13, 2022. Funeral services will be private at Riverside Cemetery.
Frances Weglarz Sokolowski was born in Gruszow, Poland on February 9, 1929, the ninth of ten children. She was the last surviving sibling. Taken from her home during World War II at the age of 16, she survived a Russian work camp in Siberia and Africa. She was reunited with her family after the war, and moved to Petworth, England where she married Jan Sokolowski a former Polish Soldier on November 8, 1950. In 1960, six years after her daughter Christine Sokolowski was born, all three embarked on a journey to America by ship, to all become American citizens. Working in New York up until her retirement in 1992 where she was a seamstress.
Frances was a lover of animals, especially dogs. She loved to tend to her flowers, and in the past, she created beautiful needlepoint canvases. She also enjoyed reading, cooking Polish cuisine and the arts. Frances is the mother of Christine Cossens and grandmother of John Cossens (Christine Joy Yeso Cossens), of Macon.
Hart’s at the Cupola, Hart’s Mortuary and Cremation Center, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210 has charge of arrangements.
