Francis Robert Otto

Macon - Memorial services for Francis Robert Otto will be held Friday, February 19, 2010, 11:00A.M. at St. Francis Episcopal Church. Otto, age 89, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was born May 3, 1920 in Bristol, Connecticut to the late Karl F. and Esther Gott Otto. Otto was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with the B.A. and M.A. degrees, of Bethel Theological Seminary of St. Paul, Minnesota with the B.D. and of The Southern Baptist Theological Divinity School with the Th.D. Bob Otto retired in 1987 from Mercer University where he had been a member of the Philosophy and Christianity Departments and served as the Dean of Chapel. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Helen Carlson Otto. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bruce R. and Linda P. Otto, grandchildren, Emily R. R. Otto and Karl T. and his wife, Samantha Otto and great-grandson, Abel Sirius, of Louisville, Kentucky, his daughter and son-in-law, Julie K. and Christopher B. Shaw of Pepper Pike, Ohio; his son and daughter-in-law, Karl F. Otto and Elizabeth Kronlage of Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Mercer University Library, to the St. Francis Episcopal Building Fund, 432 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210 or to a favorite charity.
