Macon- Francis Larcus "F.L." Clements, Jr. went Home to be with our Lord on December 30, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00PM at Vineville Baptist Church in Macon with Dr. Bill Hardee and the Reverends Ron Holland and Tripp Martin officiating. Burial will be private in Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Mr. Clements was born on September 18, 1923 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Attorney F. L. Clements, Sr. and Ara Casaday Clements. He spent most of his lifetime in Macon, GA, graduating from Lanier High School for Boys. He began studies at Mercer University in 1942, prior to being called into U.S.M.C.Reserves in July 1943. He then attended Emory and Duke Universities while in the Marines and in the Navy V-12 O.C.S. program, Mr. Clements went through O.C.S. training, completing boot camp at Parris Island, SC, advanced training at Camp LeJeune, NC, and officer O.C.S. at Quantico, VA. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in April 1945, then was deployed to Japan as a member of the Occupation and Disarming Forces. Mr. Clements was released from duty in September 1946, but was recalled by the U.S.M.C. in December 1950 during the Korean Conflict. After an additional 16 months of service, he was relieved of duty. In 1947 Mr. Clements received a B.S. of Arts degree from Mercer University with a major in Law. He spent the next 42 years in banking, 12 years with the former C & S, now Bank of America, and 30 years with Trust Company of Georgia, now SunTrust Bank, retiring in 1989 as a vice president. He was a member of the Ingleside Kiwanis Club and their president during the 50th anniversary of Kiwanis. Mr. Clements was a devoted lifelong member of Vineville Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years, and was an ordained deacon for 55 years. He was named Deacon Emeritus in June 2005. Mr. Clements is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty VanLandingham Clements of Macon; son, Dr. Larry Clements and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Clements of Marietta; sisters, Dottie Clements of Atlanta and Joyce Walker of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Caroline Kulinski, Van Clements and Scott Bellinetti of Atlanta, and a large extended family.
