Frances Rice Roberts, 88, died peacefully on January 6, 2013, at Magnolia Manor, St. Simons Island. She was born in Macon to the late Kanon King Rice and Daisy Mary Chambliss. She is predeceased by her husband John Dennis Roberts, her daughter Gina Roberts Harrison and her sister Martyna Rice Wagner. Survivors include a daughter, Jan Roberts (Doug Coker) of St. Simons Island; a grandson, Shea Harrison (Julie) and great-grandchildren Joanne and Adam Harrison of Hampton; a sister Kathryn Rice Brabson (Max), a niece Mary Kathryn Brabson, a nephew Max Brabson, Jr. (Sue) of Columbus and a nephew Warren "Butch" Wagner, Jr. of Macon. Mrs. Roberts graduated from A. L. Miller High School in 1941, received a B. A. in English from Auburn University and received a Masters and Sixth Year Degree in Education from Mercer University. She was a past president of the Macon Exchangettes, Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter of PEO and Auburn University Alumni Association. Mrs. Roberts was a devoted member of the Sommerville Sunday School Class at First Presbyterian Church and was a past president of the Women of the Church. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and a lifelong educator, teaching English at Auburn University and elementary education at Burke and McKibben Lane Schools, where she also served as Assistant Principal. Mrs. Roberts worked at Robins Field during World War II and flew around the country selling war bonds. An accomplished pianist, she also sang on a Gospel radio show during high school. Graveside Service will be on Saturday at 1:00pm at Riverside Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church Chapel at 1:30pm. Rev. Chip Miller and Rev.
