Macon, GA- Frances Cook Johnson, 84, died peacefully on Friday June 22, 2012. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street, Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00AM. The Reverend Lee Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 4 to 6 PM at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. Frances was born in Wilkinson County, Georgia on May 3, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Charles Albert Cook and the late Hattie Etheridge Cook. Frances was a graduate of A.L. Miller High School for Girls. She retired after 50 years as the comptroller for Belk Mathews. She was a member of the Cross Keys United Methodist Church for 70 years. She served on various committees, including church financial secretary, secretary and treasurer of the UMW, and taught Sunday School for the youth. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Memories will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She was a Godly woman who portrayed the Fruit of the Spirit. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Joe W. Johnson; her son Joseph Johnson; her brothers, Harold W. Cook, C. Hubert Cook, Hanson A. Cook; and sister Mary C. Chapman. Surviving are her daughters Becky Stevens (Pete) of Cadwell, Georgia, Patty Ellis (Wayne) of Macon, Georgia; her son Mark Johnson (Lesa) of Macon, Georgia; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her sister, Betty C. Smith; her sister-in-law, Margarete A. Cook; and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her caregivers, Joyce Strauchen, Alice Morris, Linda Gabany, and Geraldine Parker for their loving care and devotion. The family may be contacted at the residence.
