Macon- Frances Cone Hawkins died Sept. 2, 2010, on her 87th birthday, in Cochran, GA. She was from Macon, GA. She is survived by three children: James (Jim) Washburn Hawkins, Jr. (Macon), Glenda (& Jimmy) Davis (Hawkinsville), and Heather (and Paulo) Rehn (Guinea, Africa); seven grandchildren: Julie (& Erik) Wescott (Smyrna), Heath Davis (Albany), Jason Davis (Valdosta), Jênifer Rehn (Guinea, Africa), Alex Rehn (Macon), Corinne Hawkins (Macon), Derrick Hawkins (Macon); and four great-grandchildren: Aline Rehn (Guinea, Africa), Ginna Davis (Albany), EJ & Carlie Wescott (Smyrna). She was preceeded in death by--her husband: James Washburn Hawkins (married May 6, 1945; died Dec. 4, 2006); parents: Barney Bonaparte Cone & Maggie Golden Cone; her birth-mother, Florrie Lou Sullivan Cone, who died when Frances was 1 year old; sisters: Lyndel Thompson, Bernice Hinson, & Florrie Lou ("Sister") Morgan. Frances graduated from Miller High, Mercer University (Macon) & New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (LA). She and her husband ministered in Sorrento, LA, Pendergrass, GA, Macon, GA, Nickelsville, GA, and were missionaries in Brazil 1964-1986 (22 years). She had worked for Central of Georgia Railroad (Macon) before moving to Brazil. She was a Ham Radio operator. In her last few years, dementia stole from her two fluent languages (English & Portuguese), but never stole her love for the Lord and her family and friends, or her social graces. Even while in the nursing home, she ministered to and blessed many lives. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 3rd, 1-3 p.m., at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA, preceding the memorial service at 3 p.m. to be conducted by Dr. David Hunter, Pastor. Burial will be private on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: IMB, designated "Lottie Moon Offering," PO Box 6767, Richmond, VA 23230-0767. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
