Forrest "Phil" Philip Cawley, Jr.

Forrest Philip "Phil" Cawley, Jr., of Macon, passed away Sunday, March 18th. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Wednesday, March 21st at 12:00PM. Visitation and reception will be held after the memorial in the church fellowship hall. Phil was preceded in death by his son, Forrest Philip Cawley, III and his sister, Emma Ruth Maffett. Phil is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his son, Jay and his wife, Sandy and two beloved grandchildren, Belle and Phillip Cawley of Rutledge, Georgia; his sister, Mardelle Carter of Nichols, Georgia; and many dear nieces and nephews. Phil graduated from Sparta High School in 1946. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business at the University of Georgia in 1950. Upon graduation, Phil was a commissioned army officer. He did a tour in the Korean War and earned two Bronze Stars for his meritorious service. Phil enjoyed a career with the U.S. Census Bureau, which he retired from in 1984. Phil loved to travel. Phil and Mary Ann went on several trips to throughout Europe and the United States during his retirement giving them the opportunity to explore his love of art, music and religion.
