Floyd Lynn Copeland

Floyd Lynn Copeland, 93, of Macon, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the Chapel at Ingleside Baptist Church, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall.  Burial will be private at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Waco, Texas on March 29, 1929, Floyd lived in Fort Worth, Texas for most of his adult life. He graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. As a member of Fort Worth’s Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Floyd was active in the adult choir, missions, and other church ministries.

Floyd worked in the insurance industry early in his career, and later as a landscaper with a passion for horticulture. He loved to beautify outdoor environments, was knowledgeable about which plants would flourish in what locations and loved sharing those insights with others. Floyd loved God’s Word and exhibited an interest in memorizing it, even into his 90s. He genuinely cared about his grandchildren’s spiritual development, interests, and education.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lu Copeland, of Macon, Georgia; son, Mike Copeland, of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Candy Copeland Hudgins (Mark), of Macon; grandsons, John Hudgins, David Hudgins, and Sam Hudgins; brother, Newman Copeland, of Waco, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Dillard Copeland and Leila Pearce Copeland; son, Marcus Lynn Copeland; and brother, Ronald Copeland.
