Macon- Fletcher Terry died at his residence on Friday, June 10, 2011. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 11AM, at Riverside Cemetery entering through the north gate. He was born on December 12, 1925 to the late Robert Fletcher and Lois Irvin Terry in Terry, MS, a town founded by his great, great grandfather. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and joined the Army Air Corp in 1942, where he was a tail gunner on the B-29 Super Fortress. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, the former Valentine Meriwether. Fletcher began his career in the cotton industry with Anderson Clayton Company in Memphis, TN, and moved to Macon in 1963 to be Vice President of The Bibb Company, a position he held for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of The American Textile Manufacturers Association, the National Cotton Council and the Georgia Textile Manufacturers Association. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Macon, but his heart was always with his small Episcopal Church in Terry, MS, the Church of the Good Shepherd. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Terry Grinstead, (Charles H. Grinstead, Jr.); his son, William F. Terry, (Mary Clark); and his grandchildren Charles H. Grinstead, III (Georgana Beckham), William F. Terry, Jr. and John Robert Terry. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Charles H. (Grey) Grinstead, IV and Georgina Valentine Grinstead, all of Macon, GA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dr. Thomas W. Meriwether, III, (Leo Anderson), of Memphis, TN and his nieces and nephews, Sharon Terry of Hernando, MS, N. Fletcher Terry of Memphis, TN, Jeff Terry of Hernando, MS, Tommy Meriwether, Jim Meriwether and Susan Meriwether Baker, all of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by his devoted friend and assistant, Larry Nixon. The family may be contacted at the residence of Jane and Charles Grinstead, 6269 Rivoli Drive, Macon, GA.
