Evelyn Byrd Selby, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on October 29, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Martha Bowman Church, with the Reverends John Haney and Fran Magoni officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel.
Born on November 27, 1928, Mrs. Selby was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hyacinth Major. She graduated from Saluda High School in Saluda, Virginia, where she was the valedictorian. She married her high school sweetheart in 1949. After years of traveling in the construction business, they settled in Gray, Georgia, where they founded the family business, Warren Associates Inc. in 1971. Byrd was very active in the community where she continued knitting and quilting for the children in the community. She was a longtime member of Gray Methodist Church, known for knitting baby blankets for all of the new babies, playing the organ and piano, and singing in the choir. Following the death of her husband of 68 years, Charles Warren Selby, she relocated to Macon in 2018 and became a member of Martha Bowman Church.
A woman of Christian faith and traditional values, Byrd was truly one of a kind. She was tiny in stature, full of charm, and had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Her greatest joy was spending time with friends and family. Her sweet presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her Saturdays in the fall were spent cheering for the Auburn Tigers and Mercer Bears.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren Selby, and her eldest daughter, Evelyn Kay Selby.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Avera (Doug), of Warner Robins, Georgia; her son, Warren Selby, Jr. (Tana), of Macon, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jennifer Nash (Brian), Kristen Smith (Mark), Warren Selby, III, and Mason Selby (Lindsey); seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jackie Purcell (Charles) of Texas, and Betty Shaheen, of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Methodist Children’s Home, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
