Evelyn Boyd Clark passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210. She and her late husband, Rev. Frank Clark were longtime, beloved church members.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Abingdon, Virginia on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Born in Pender County, North Carolina, Evelyn was officially named Sidney Evelyn Boyd on January 25, 1931. Her parents were Joseph Alston Boyd and Sidney Kearfott Boyd. She was the second of three children in her family. In addition to living in North Carolina, Evelyn also lived in Bluff City, Tennessee and Burlington, North Carolina. She graduated from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, North Carolina, with a major in both Bible and Christian Education. Introduced at Green Spring Presbyterian Church by her father while on Christmas break from college, Evelyn first met her future husband, Frank. Evelyn said she was attracted to Frank because he was “cute” and he let her drive his car! Evelyn married Franklin (Frank) Bruce Clark, Jr., on July 25,1954. Their marriage was blessed with four sons, Franklin Bruce, III, Alston Boyd, John Graham and Edward Kearfott. The growing family moved to Decatur, Georgia so that Frank could attend seminary. Evelyn was the Director of Christian Education for the Atlanta Presbytery. They moved to LaGrange and Stockbridge before settling in Macon where she lived for 56 years.
Evelyn often would say, “I can do anything because I have raised 4 boys!” Well, she certainly proved that to be true. She went back to school at Georgia College and State University and earned a master’s degree in special education, all while raising her sons. She taught in the Bibb County School System for 30 years, starting at the Youth Development Center, then teaching at Winship, Green Street, Maude C. Pye and McKibbin Lane Elementary Schools and ended her full-time teaching career at the Teen Parent Center. She was the only learning-disabled credentialed teacher who was accredited to teach in elementary and high school, at that time. In addition to working full time, she was a member of the Macon Women’s Club and the Macon Study Club. After retirement, she was a member of the Bibb County Retired Educators’ Association. She was an active and devoted member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she served twice as an elder. In her “spare time” she cooked for the family and friends (homemade rolls and fried chicken were favorites), spent time with her family, traveled to almost every state, took several international trips, and documented all trips and events with a collection of scrapbooks she maintained. She was warm and loving to all and had a good sense of humor. Everyone enjoyed spending time with her.
Evelyn was married to the Rev. Frank Clark for 69 years until his passing on February 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Joseph Alston Boyd and Mrs. Sidney Kearfott Boyd, two sons, Alston Boyd Clark of Macon, Georgia and Franklin Bruce Clark III of Forsyth, Georgia. She is survived by two sons, John Graham Clark, (Lynn) of Tiger, Georgia and Edward K. Clark, M.D. of Macon, Georgia; daughter-in-law Vicki Clark Jackson (Chuck) of Lizella, Georgia; her adopted daughter Rena Wainwright Kearns Thompson (Buddy) of Macon, Georgia; four grandchildren – Franklin Bruce Clark, IV ( Caitlyn) of Macon, Georgia, Sidney Nicole Clark Feaster (Aaron) of Dallas, Pennsylvania, Molly Kate Clark Cromer (Zack) of Sycamore, Georgia and Ansley Alston Clark Carrouthers (Jack) of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers-in-law, John Kelly Clark of Abingdon, Virginia and Joseph Graham Clark (Pat) of Manassas, Virginia, and one sister-in-law, Mary Hope Clark Lee (Mike) of Johnson City, Tennessee; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The Clark family would like to recognize the wonderful caregivers who provided tender loving care for Evelyn Clark during her later years. Heartfelt thanks to Dorothy Aaron, Susan Jackson, Anita Mosely, Harold Adside, Brenda Brown and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care.
