Eugene Funderburke

Eugene Funderburke, 90, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Hart’s at the Cupola.   A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Christian Home Cemetery, Rochelle, GA 31079.

Eugene was born on August 11, 1932, in Pineview, Georgia to the late Cuen and Blanche Black Funderburke.  Eugene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War on the USS Wisconsin.  After serving in the Navy, he joined the United States Air Force, and then retired from the Air National Guard.

Eugene loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening and fishing. He also had a love for sports and animals. Eugene was a very honest, fair, generous, kind, loving, tough person, and always a jokester.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is preceded in death by his brothers, John, Howard, and Gerald Funderburke.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joanne Funderburke; daughter, Susan F. Peterson (Don) of North Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Ken Peterson of Apex, North Carolina, and Keith Peterson (Lori) of Gainesville, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Simon, Allyson, and Connor Peterson; siblings, Caroline Little of Perry, Georgia, Frances Meeks of Cleveland, Georgia, and Ophelia Folds of Pineview, Georgia; caregiver for seven years, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and Tee.
