Esther Gibson Lawhon: 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009, while visiting family in Macon. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. till 1:00 p.m. with a service following in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery entering through the north gate. Reverend Chip Miller will officiate. . In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association, 277 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Macon, Ga. 31201. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Esther Swanson Fort, who died in childbirth, and was raised by her father, William H. Fort and stepmother, Evelyn Corlett Fort. She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Gibson and Robert Barrows. She is survived by her husband, James Lawhon of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Macon; Three daughters: Susan Stanton, Barbara Sarbaugh, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Brena Gibson of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Six grandchildren: Amy Hayward, Keith Stanton, Rebecca Finni, Paul Sarbaugh, Kimberly Grace, Chris Manoly; Five great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Pat Tucker of Macon; Seven nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lawhon was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived life to the fullest, telling everyone "This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it" Psalm 118:24.
