Ernest Brantley Mason, age 94, died February 7, 2017 at The Oaks at Peake assisted living facility. He was a former member of Second Baptist, West Highland Baptist, and a current member of Vineville Baptist Church in Macon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Belgium and Germany with the 75th Division in the Battle of the Bulge. For 32 years following the War, he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Macon. He was predeceased by his first son Ernest Brantley Mason III, and by his wife of sixty years Peggy Taylor Mason, by his brothers Jim and Larry and by his sister Leona Mason Davis. He is survived by his two sons Samuel Dewey Mason of Colorado Springs, Colorado and by David Brantley Mason of Asheville, North Carolina, his granddaughter Georgia Elizabeth Mason of Asheville, North Carolina, and by his niece Nancy Davis Posa of Largo, Florida and nephew Bill Davis of Williston, Florida. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, 1071 Riverside Drive, Macon. Dr. Richard Kremer will preside over a committal service at 11:30 AM on Monday, February 13, 2017. Mr. Mason will lie in state from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
