Ernest “Mac” Eugene Mcwilliams

Ernest Eugene “Mac” McWilliams, aged 90, entered eternal rest Monday, May 16, 2022. His life was defined in large part by a healthy pride in his family, a loyalty to those he knew and dealt with, and a desire that all that he did be done as well as it could possibly be done.

Mr. McWilliams was a faithful husband of 72 years to his wife, Betty. He meant and lived the wedding vows he took before the Lord in November 1949. For several years, he was an extraordinary caregiver for Betty during her own illnesses and health challenges. They were long time members of First Presbyterian Church in Macon where he served as a deacon.

Mr. McWilliams had a work ethic and a reputation for fairness and honesty not often matched. He worked for Starr Electric Company for 43 years, eventually becoming a part owner of the company, retiring in 1972.

Although a private man, he cared deeply about others. Most importantly, he knew Christ as his personal Savior and now finds eternal rest in His presence.

Mr. McWilliams was predeceased by his first grandchild, Cole McWilliams.  He is survived by his wife, Betty R. McWilliams; sons, Steve McWilliams (Fran) of Covington, Georgia, and the Reverend David McWilliams (Vicky), Lakeland, Florida; grandson, the Reverend Evan McWilliams of London, England; granddaughter, Elisabeth M. Fuller (Josh); and four great grandchildren, Knox, Logan, Beckett and Brynne, Covington, GA.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2022, at Historic Riverside Cemetery with the Reverend David McWilliams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s preferred Christian charity.
