Macon, GA - Ernest Franklin Davis, 93, of Macon, Georgia passed peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born on October 13, 1924, in Macon, Georgia to the late Dewey Davis, Sr. and Beulah Sanderlin. Ernest proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He entered the military on December 17, 1940 and served overseas during World War II. His decorations and citations included the Distinguished Unit Badge, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the military, Ernest worked as general manager for Putzel's Lighting in Macon. A voracious reader, Ernest loved books about wars and military leaders. He loved to cook and enjoyed preparing creative dishes for his loved ones. Above all, he was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He never met a stranger and could strike up a meaningful conversation with anyone at any time. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and whoever owns the New China Buffet on Eisenhower as it was, by far, his favorite restaurant. He is fondly remembered for his patience, easy-going nature, the way he growled when he ate, and telling stories of Macon's history and his part in it. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Davis; stepson, Mike Harbin; sister, Juanita Glosson, and brothers Dewey Davis, Jr. and William Davis. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving daughter, Lisa Hester (Kevin) of Macon, GA; five grandchildren Robert Harbin (Missy) of Monticello, GA, Matthew Davis (Kristina) of Byron, GA, Logan Mann of Macon, GA, Kaelyn Hester of Macon, GA, and Riley Hester of Macon, GA; two great grandsons, Mikey Harbin of Monticello, GA, and Ryan Davis of Byron, GA; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their profound appreciation to the staff at Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation for the care given to Ernest during his time there. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street has charge of the arrangements.
