Emmett Young "E.Y." Stokes

Emmett Young “E.Y.” Stokes Jr., 88, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on March 9, 2025.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, with the Reverends Joe McDaniel, Adam Bray, and Len Woodard officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Sardis Church Cemetery.

Son of the late Emmett Young Stokes and Alice Jewell McGee Stokes, E.Y. was born on April 21, 1936, in Macon.  He attended John H. Heard Elementary School and was a 1954 graduate of Lanier High School. He served as class officer during his 10th, 11th, and 12th grade year. He also played center and linebacker for the football team, contributing to his team's success as the Runner Up State Champion in 1954.

He worked as a building contractor, real estate broker, and later owned Alexander Frost & Company. His commitment to excellence extended to his membership with the Association of Realtors, where he held the honor of being a Life member.

E.Y. was a dedicated member of Mable White Baptist Church for 65 years. He taught the J.C. Johnson Sunday School Class for 25 years and invested his talents and time in various leadership roles, including serving as chairman of the board of trustees for 15 years, on the Finance Committee for 8 years, and as Chair of the Pulpit Committee.

E.Y. is survived by son, Steve Y. Stokes, Sr. (Pam) of Macon; daughters, Kim Stokes McKinney (Daryl) of Macon and Lori Stokes Brooks of Macon; grandchildren: Daniel Stokes (Christy), Susanna DeWitt (Tommy), Tim Stokes (Josie), Tina Stokes (Spouse of the late Stephen Stokes), Brooks Hinton (Melissa), Carley Raffield (Joe), Taylor Brooks, and Tanner Brooks (Caroline); seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, E.Y. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Dubose Stokes; grandchild, Stephen Y. Stokes, Jr.; siblings, Emily Bray, and James McGee “Mack” Stokes; and son-in-law, Dane Brooks.
