Mrs. Emma Lea Michael, age 101, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on the 29th day of May 2024. She was born February 23, 1923 in Bibb County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Alva Sam Phillips and late Emma Lea Taylor Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Bert Michael, Sr.; her brother, Alva S. (Bud) Phillips; and her sister, Cornelia Phillips Wall.
Emma Lea attended Georgia Business School in Macon and was an employee of Georgia Timberland in Macon and Sea Island Company in Sea Island, Georgia from which she retired. She was a member of Mulberry Methodist Church and a faithful member of the Solomon Sunday School Class.
Emma Lea was a member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile in Macon. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, cross stitch and gardening. Recently, as a resident of Carlyle Place, she joined many friends in playing cards and solving jigsaw puzzles. Emma Lea brought joy to all she met.
Survivors include three nieces, Diane Phillips (Charlie) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, Pam Phillips (Bill) Blackstone, of Indialantic, Florida, and Susan Wall Bates of Fort Mill, South Carolina; three stepchildren, Bert (Evelyn) Michael, Jr. of Carrollton, Georgia, Sanna Michael (Jimmy) Smith of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Jordan (Mary Lynn) Michael of Macon; and several grandchildren; great grandchildren; great nieces; and great nephews. Most recently, Emma Lea has been blessed with support and devotion of loving caregivers. These ladies have been faithful in their care of her and have also received abundant blessing from sharing this portion of her life. The family also wants to give thanks to Pine Pointe Hospice for their professional care and love.
A memorial service and burial will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Michael Family Plot in Riverside Cemetery.
