Emily Hancock Bredeson passed into Glory on June 20, 2026. Born March 12, 1929, in Thomaston, GA, Emily was the daughter of Annie Lou Beverly and Kyle Hancock. The funeral service will be private at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
Emily attended R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston. One of her special memories from high school was playing in the first Georgia State Girls Basketball Tournament held at Mercer in 1945.
Emily attended Wesleyan College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a BS degree in Biology. Always enjoying various sports, she was president of the Athletic Association her senior year and participated on the field hockey team. She was a big supporter of Wesleyan College, and was an active alumna throughout her life.
Early in her career, Emily was influential for many years in the family business concern, Ocmulgee Fields, Inc. Thereafter, she spent many years as a real estate associate broker in Macon and in St. Simons Island GA with Parker- Kaufmann Realtors, where she enjoyed a notable career on the Island in both real estate and securities, including being the listing agent on the original King and Prince condominiums.
She was a charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Macon., her family supporting the opening of the original church on Wimbish Rd, and remained active in the church upon her return to Macon.
Emily enjoyed her church, work, school, community activities and being a mother. For most of her life, she continued to be very active in such activities as golf and snow skiing. She was blessed with a long life with her family and friends. Her life was centered around her family.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Bredeson, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They enjoyed many years of retirement in St. Simons Island, GA and Pinehurst, NC, where they were active members in their community and various charitable endeavors.
Daughters, Judy Jones Hay and Emily Janice Ward, and son, Charles Jefferson Jones, also preceded her in death, as did her brother, William Kyle Hancock and sisters-in-law Dana Jones MacMillan, Jackie Jones Williams and Betty Jones Dawkins. Her survivors are son Dwight Charles Jones (Tracy); son, Chris J. Bredeson (Nancy); son, Scott Bredeson; granddaughters: Jennifer Ward Chandler (Alan); Kim Ward Williamson (Wade); Christy Hay Fiveash (Chris); Chase Jones Machamer (Clint); grandsons: Stephen Park Hay; Corbin J. Jones (Katy); Connor B. Jones; Barron R. Jones; B. Blake Jones; Nicholas S. Bredeson; and great grandchildren: Emy, Mac, Banks, Wyatt; Jackson; Willow; Breck; Carson; Law and Chandler Hope; as well as, daughter-in-law, Sandie Jones and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Family would like to give their heart felt appreciation to Emily’s excellent caregiver Celena Williams and her assistants Velma Sandifer and Unita Poole. Also, the family can’t say enough about the professional care received by all the staff at Pine Point Hospice.
