Elton “Bubber” Adams passed away at his home on October 17, 2025, following an extended illness. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Abbott officiating.
Mr. Adams was born in Macon, Georgia on December 13, 1944, to Kathleen Heyser Bush and Elton Mathis Adams Jr. His entire education was completed in Macon, culminating with as Master of Education from Georgia College and State University in 1973.
While in college Bubber worked part-time at Stratford Academy. This was the beginning of a career in coaching at Stratford that lasted for 33 years. During this time Bubber was named Coach of the year by the Georgia private school association seven times and four times by the Macon Telegraph. At the time of his retirement his record of 543 wins was the most ever recorded by a baseball coach in Bibb County. He holds a position of honor in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
After retiring as coach, Bubber continued to work at Stratford Academy as the Director of Alumni Affairs. The baseball complex at Stratford was renamed “The Bubber Adams Baseball Complex” when he fully retired in 2012 following 50 years of employment.
Bubber is predeceased by his parents and stepfather, Cecil George Bush. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cheryl Adams.
