Elowese Elizabeth Evans Souther

Elowese Elizabeth Evans Souther, 82, of Macon, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, after an extended illness due to complications of congestive heart failure and apraxia. Mrs. Souther was born on June 20, 1933, in Dodge County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Ottis Thomas and Elsie Watson Evans. For most of her early years, she lived in Wheeler County, Georgia. She graduated, as class valedictorian, from Lowery High School in Glenwood, GA. After graduation, she attended Berry College, where she studied Home Economics. After moving to Macon, in 1952, Elowese met and married Dan Souther. They enjoyed 45 happy years together before Dan preceded her in death, in 1999. Together they worked to raise and provide for their family. Dan and Elowese enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States. Elowese was an accomplished homemaker who loved cooking and gardening and spending time with her family. She worked at Davison's Department Store and for several years, as a dental receptionist. Elowese was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be remembered for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Mrs. Souther was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church (formerly Shurlington Baptist Church). There she served her church and her Lord by working on the Kitchen Committee, and the Flower Committee, and by singing in the choir. She was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class, Goldtimers and was predeceased by her brother Aubry Evans. Survivors include her daughters, Karen Souther, of Macon, and Lynn Mitchell (Mac), of Macon; two sons, Lance Souther (Cindy) of Macon; and Neil Souther (Tracie), of Forsyth; grandchildren: Nathan, Natalie, and Thomas Souther, AnnaLeigh Ussery (Caleb) of Columbus, and Lindsey and Molly Mitchell, of Macon; four great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Earhart (Arlon), of Perry; sister-in-law, Faye Evans, of Macon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, at 1:30PM at Greenwood Baptist Church, 3400 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032, with Reverend Joe Ferguson and Reverend Kim Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. The visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015, from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, Georgia 31032.
