Elizabeth Hatcher Waldrep, a long-time resident of Macon, GA, died of natural causes October 11, 2011 in her nursing home Budd Terrace at Wesley Woods in Atlanta, GA. Born on February 8, 1919 in Dublin, GA, Elizabeth graduated from Dublin High School. She continued her education at GSCW (Georgia State College for Women - now Georgia College) in Milledgeville, GA, from which she received Degrees in Art and English. Elizabeth and her husband John, whom she married in 1939, were active members of Mulberry United Methodist Church in Macon, Ga. At Mulberry, she taught Sunday school classes and was also the teacher of three women's circle groups and involved with children's ministries. She produced artistic works of calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts depicting many well known hymns and verses. A good number of her works of art, including a series on the prophets, are currently on display at Mulberry. She was also talented as a writer and produced numerous hymns and poems. Elizabeth loved enriching others lives with uplifting and motivating allegories, family was of paramount importance to her, and she had a gentle demeanor that was easy to be around and that attracted others to want to be in her presence. John and Elizabeth were active members of the Macon community for over 50 years, were local business owners and helped to found the Macon Outreach program, through Mulberry, to feed the homeless. She is survived by her son and his spouse, Clifford and Peggy Waldrep of Fredrick, MD; daughter and her spouse, Walter and Emily Johnson of Columbus, GA; daughter, Ruth Anne Leventhal of Macon, GA; granddaughter and her spouse, Francesco and Virgina DiPierro of Dallas, TX; granddaughter and her spouse, Elliott and Laura Nixon of Lubbock, TX; granddaughter and her spouse, Dave and Stacey Stone of Huntsville, AL; grandson and his spouse, Frank and Liz Leventhal of Atlanta, GA and great-grandson Cameron Stone of Huntsville, AL. Flowers will be accepted or Memorial Contributions may be made to Macon Outreach at Mulberry UMC. Visitation will be at Hart's Mortuary in Macon, GA from 10AM-12PM and Funeral Service will follow at Mulberry United Methodist Church at 2PM on Friday, October 21, 2011. The Reverend Tommy Perkins will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Register online at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
