Elizabeth "Betty" Baker Morris

After a life well-lived Elizabeth Baker Morris, affectionately known as "Betty," passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at the age of 98, in Woodstock, Georgia.  A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, in the Stevens-Taylor Memorial Chapel. Reverend Jack Varnell and Reverend Craig Rikard will be officiating.  Family will greet friends beginning at 12:30 PM, in the church's parlor, prior to the service for visitation and a lunch reception.  Interment will be private at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, in Macon, Georgia.  Please make contributions to Mulberry Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, or donor's choice in honor of Mrs. Betty Morris.

She was born on March 22, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Betty was an extraordinary lady, known for her enduring grace, remarkable strength, and elegant presence. She always had a smile on her face. She carried herself with dignity, kindness, and confidence, and possessed a keen fashion sense that reflected her natural sophistication. Betty's sense of humor and infectious laugh turned ordinary moments into cherished memories filled with joy and laughter. Blessed with countless friends throughout her life, her warmth, generosity, and genuine interest in others endeared her to everyone she met.

In the late 1930’s, Betty moved with her family to Macon, Georgia, where she attended Winship Elementary School and graduated from Miller High School in 1946. Macon always held a special place in her heart and remained the community she most cherished throughout her life.

Betty's commitment to service extended far beyond her professional life. She was an active member of the AT&T Pioneers, devoting countless hours to volunteerism, charitable giving, friendship, and fellowship. She served in numerous officer and chairman roles, inspiring others through her dedication to helping those in need and strengthening the bonds of community.

Following graduation, Betty began a distinguished career with Southern Bell, later BellSouth and now AT&T. A true career woman and trailblazer for her generation, she steadily worked her way up the corporate ladder through hard work, determination, and exceptional leadership. In 1967, she was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia, where she made her home in Decatur for twenty-five years. At the pinnacle of her career, she had achieved the position of Management Executive, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues throughout her many years of service.

After retirement, Betty returned to her beloved hometown of Macon, where she enjoyed reconnecting with lifelong friends and becoming active once again in the community she loved. She was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church, where her faith guided her life and where she treasured the fellowship of her church family. She was a member of several golf & country clubs and involved with multiple community enrichment programs & active charities.

A gracious hostess and exceptional cook, Betty loved entertaining family and friends. She delighted in preparing memorable meals and creating beautiful gatherings. Her table was always impeccably set with china, silver, crystal, and stunning centerpieces. No detail was overlooked. Holidays and special occasions were celebrated in style, with her home beautifully decorated and filled with warmth, laughter, and hospitality. Creating joyful memories for those she loved brought her immense happiness.

Betty embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of fun. She was an avid sports fan who especially loved football and golf. A passionate golfer herself, she enjoyed many rounds with friends over the years. Her love of golf extended beyond the course, and each spring she could be found at Amen Corner during the Masters Tournament, enthusiastically cheering on her favorite golfers.

An avid reader, Betty could often be found enjoying a good book. She also loved playing cards and was known as a skilled and formidable player. Her competitive nature was one of her most endearing qualities, and she genuinely enjoyed both the challenge of the game and the satisfaction of winning.

Betty was also a devoted dog lover who shared her life with many beloved pets through the years. One special favorite was Chase Von Barkingham, her niece Beth's miniature Dachshund. Chase could be found curled up in Betty's lap, enjoying the affection and companionship they shared.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester Anthony Morris III; her son, Tony Morris; and her loving sister, Eleanor Baker Castellaw.

Betty is survived by her adoring nieces, Beth Castellaw (Dave Bielicki) and Daye Blackmon; along with numerous cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends who became family through the years.

Betty lived life with elegance, purpose, and an unwavering appreciation for family and friends. Whether cheering from Amen Corner at the Masters, sharing laughter around a card table, hosting a beautifully dinner party, enjoying a round of golf, or relaxing with a beloved dog in her lap, she embraced every moment with joy and gratitude. Her life was marked not only by her accomplishments, but by the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, friendship, and love.

Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Her life was a true blessing, she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
