Eleanor Green Hurley

Macon- Miss Eleanor Hurley of Macon, Georgia died September 5, 2011 at her residence at Carlyle Place. Services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 1:30PM with Father Allan McDonald officiating. Burial will be private. A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 5:30PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or to Friends of the Library, P. O. Box 5412, Macon, Georgia 31208. Miss Hurley was born December 7, 1918 in Macon, Georgia, daughter of Mary Gleason Hurley and Dr. Thomas Aquin Hurley. A graduate of the University of Georgia, she was a teacher and principal in the Bibb County school system for nearly forty years. She taught and was principal of Alexander III School and principal of Lasseter High School, currently known as Northeast. During her early years of retirement, she also worked at the Washington Memorial Library, never far from her love of reading. Miss Hurley traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Miss Hurley is survived by her nephew, George Cullen and wife, Patti, of Columbus, Georgia; niece, Cissy Cullen of Denver, Colorado; niece, Cathy Hedglin of Macon, Georgia and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
