Eleanor Golombiewski Homeyer

April 7, 1927 — December 20, 2012

Eleanor Apolonia Golombiewski "Gee" Homeyer died peacefully on 20 December 2012 at 85 years of age after a long illness. Born in Cambridge, Mass in 1927 to Polish-American parents, she was raised in a Lithuanian neighborhood in West Lynn, Mass. After graduation from high school, she worked for General Electric helping to manufacture radar equipment for the military in World War II. She then matriculated in and graduated from nursing school, and enlisted in the USAF. While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, she met and married Captain Walter F. Homeyer, Jr., MD. With him she raised four children in Macon, GA. Later in life she pursued many interests including playing and teaching tennis, painting in oils, flea marketeering, language study (German, Japanese), Bible instruction, world travel, and Ikebana. She was the best mother and grandmother that has ever lived, and will be deeply missed by her children Chris(and Julia) Homeyer, Leah(and Phil) Motes, Fran(and Boyce) Mitchell, Andy(and Dana) Homeyer; and by six grandchildren: Andrew, Katie, and Julie-Anna Homeyer; and Christopher, Matthew, and Anna Motes. All rest in the sure promise of God through Jesus Christ, who said: "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die…"; and look forward to their reunion with her in the life to come. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Father Allan McDonald will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow on Sunday, December 23, 2012 in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Downtown. Friends may sign the online register at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Downtown has charge of arrangements.
