Elaine Margaret Holmes Heiserman

Elaine (Holmes) Heiserman, 68, formerly of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, passed away at her home in Macon, Georgia, on April 15, 2022. Born on January 22, 1954, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Fenwick N. Holmes and Jacqueline (Winn) Holmes.

Elaine, also known as Lainey to her sister and friends, attended Portsmouth High School during which time she was employed at J.J. Newberrys. Soon after graduating with the Class of 1972, she met and married James R. Klitzing. They moved to San Jose, California, where they started their family, eventually settling in the city of Fremont. While in CA, she acquired her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate and was employed as a CNA at Sequoia and San Leandro Hospitals.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fenwick, mother, Jacqueline, brother, Dr. Alan Goodell-Holmes, sister-in-law, Jo Goodell-Holmes, and husband, Harry Heiserman, Jr.

Elaine is survived by her loving children, Deborah E. Ramirez (Jose) and Tiffany J. Merfeld (Jason); her sisters, Karen Kramer (Mark) and Barbara J. Folland (John), and brother, David J. Holmes (Christine); grandchildren: Hannah, Nathaniel, Matthew, and Abigail Ramirez, and Jayden and Audrey Merfeld; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She had a love for animals, especially for her own fur-babies, dogs Butch and Maggie Mae, and cats Buster, Sasha, Doogie, and Christian.

Prior to moving to California, Elaine was a member of the Middle Street Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in “Winnie’s Choir” and performing solos. Some of her other interests were music, dancing, and Robert Redford.

Elaine will be laid to rest in California, near her loving daughters.

Her memorial will be held on Monday, June 27th, at 10 AM at Irvington Memorial Cemetery, 41001 Chapel Way, Fremont, CA 94538.
