Edwin "Eddie" Robert Jones, Jr.

The Macon Telegraph’s Ed Grisamore said it best in an article he once wrote about Eddie Jones entitled, “Seeing the world through Mayberry.” He wrote, “In his heart and mind, part of him will always be in Mayberry. And that’s a pretty nice place to be.” Mayberry, of course, being the idyllic setting for the “The Andy Griffith Show”, where all problems had a simple solution and could be resolved with a talk on Aunt Bea’s front porch.

That’s how Eddie Jones lived his life; appreciating the simple things including rides on his John Deere mower, hummingbirds on his feeder, and hearty laughs over “dad jokes” with his children and grandchildren.

Eddie was born in Macon, Georgia, to Edwin Robert Jones, Sr. and Doris Austin Jones. He moved to Douglasville for a short time, before returning to Macon and meeting his wife, Peggy Lee Jones. Eddie and Peggy shared 48 years of marriage and raised two sons, Ben and Dan.

Peggy was the love of his life. Some of Eddie and Peggy’s most cherished memories together included trips to Mount Airy, North Carolina, the birthplace of Andy Griffith. Eddie surrounded himself in memorabilia, music and quotations from “Mayberry”. In his final years, he spent time with Ben and Dan restoring a Feather Craft boat named the “Aunt Bea.”

Eddie earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia College & State University and enjoyed 36 years of work at YKK Inc. as a Safety Director. He was an active member of Park Memorial United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and participating on numerous committees. A talented musician, Eddie spent many happy hours with friends playing instruments in the “Park’s Pickers” band.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Peggy, sons Ben (Lorra) and Dan (Melissa), grandchildren Olsen, Benjamin, Hudson, Maddux and Hope, brothers Steve, Jay, Darryl, and Brian Jones, mother-in-law Huldah Lee and aunt Jenelle DeLaurier.

A service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 11:00AM at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted by Hart’s Mortuary with the designation for “Eddie Jones.”
