Edward Sidney Jones

Sep 22, 1933 — Sep 10, 2026

Macon, GA

Edward Sidney Jones was a loving son, attentive brother, loyal husband, honored father, doting Pop, punctual employee, and true friend. Most importantly, he chose to trust Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, the only way to Heaven. His life verse was Romans 4:3 “Abraham put his trust in The Lord God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” He was welcomed into his heavenly home on September 10, 2026, at the ripe age of 92.

Ed was born to Elizabeth Thwaite and Frank Rueben Jones in Macon, Georgia, where he participated in ROTC at Lanier High School and attended Mercer University.

He married the love of his life, Margie McKinley in 1959. They were wed for 63 years and were lifelong residents of Macon. As an honored husband and father, he and Margie protected, provided for, and educated two daughters and two sons.

Ed was a civilian employee at Warner Robins Air Force Base and retired after 31 years of service. As an employee he showed up early, left late, and worked hard.

Ed loved hanging out with his friends at Burger King where he enjoyed the free coffee. He also loved S&S Cafeteria and a winning Bridge hand. He was a faithful member of Ingleside Methodist Church, of which his Grandmother Thwaite was a founder.

In later years, Ed and Margie moved to Pine Gate, their retirement home.

Ed is predeceased by his parents, his wife Margie, his brother Frank Thwaite Jones, and his son- in- law, Charles Grimes.

He was most proud of his four children and 7 grandchildren’s accomplishments. He is survived by daughters, Patsy Grimes- Collier (Joe) of Greensboro, GA, Sherry Jones Sawyer (Dan) of Bishop, GA; sons, Edward Frank Jones (Jane) of Macon, GA, and Charles McKinley (Mack) Jones (Anna) of Forsyth, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Grimes (Jane), of London, England, Cameron Mikulak Joseph (Matt) of Watkinsville, GA, Elizabeth Sawyer Peyton (Michael), of Decatur, GA, Paige Sawyer Nicholson (Brian) of Lexington, SC, Molly Morgan Jones of Woodstock, GA, McKinley Jones Coutts (Michael) of North Augusta, SC, and Anna Jones Jue (Christopher) of Charlotte, NC; 12 great-grands, and sister-in-law, Alice Ann Mullins of The Woodlands, TX. Ed loved his family deeply and was loved deeply.

The family is very thankful for the care given by Elsie Stevens, staff at Pine Gate, Atrium Healthcare, John Wesley Villas, Monroe County Hospital, and Zebulon Park.

A private memorial service will be held by the family, with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
