Edward J. "Jerry" Harrell

Edward J. "Jerry" Harrell passed away on September 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Joseph Shippen officiating. Burial will be private. Born November 7, 1944 in Milledgeville and raised in Hawkinsville, Jerry received a B.A. from the University of Georgia (1966), a J.D. from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University (1969), and an L.L.M. in taxation from Emory University (1970). He was a member of the Macon Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia and the Florida Bar. His distinguished career as a partner with Martin Snow, LLP included leading the firm as a managing partner and as general counsel for the Georgia Community Bankers Association (beginning 1978). In addition, he moderated the Community Bankers Association of Georgia Regulation and Tax Liaison Committee's quarterly meetings and frequently addressed Georgia bankers. He was named a Super Lawyer in 2013 by Georgia's Super Lawyers magazine, an honor achieved each year by only 5 percent of Georgia attorneys. Jerry served as the Director and Vice President of the Dorothy V. and N. Logan Lewis Foundation, Inc., on the Board of Trustees of Mercer University, as Chairman and a board member of the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as President of the Macon Bar Association, as Chairman and Vice President of a private investment partnership for business associates, and on the endowment committee of the Museum of Arts and Sciences. Predeceased by his parents Eddie and Sara Harrell, Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Hunter Harrell of Macon; children, Saralyn DeSmet (Bob), Ed Harrell (Angela), Mary Ellen Ridley, Caroline Harrell, and David Holt Harrell, all of Macon; grandchildren, Rob DeSmet, Annabel DeSmet, Grayson Harrell and Ellis Harrell, all of Macon; sister, Patsy Odom (Jim) of Macon; and many nieces and nephews.
