To sum up our father’s life in a few brief sentences doesn’t seem to encompass the enormity of this man. He was a great man among men. His presence sometimes seemed larger than life. Not only from his stature, beautiful deep opera voice, and delivery, but from his Santa Claus twinkle in his eyes and the gentleness he could deliver after his all but bone crushing bear hugs. We all loved his hugs. He emanated love. Fierce and unwavering in his love for his wife and children. Born in Fayetteville, then lived in Lawrenceville until 1980 when he moved to Gray with his family. He was a Renaissance man with over a dozen occupations over his life, one more interesting than the last. He was a Korean War Vet, Egg Farm Owner, owned an exotic Pet Store called Jacks Jungle (an animal whisperer), insurance salesman, lay minister, Real estate investor, and of course Santa Claus (just to name a few). He trained hawks, milked venomous snakes, worked on Habitat homes, drove to Biloxi to help out hurricane victims, rode motorcycles, and could do and fix just about anything. He was always tinkering with something, rarely sitting still. But most importantly, he should be remembered as a good man, who never hesitated to help anyone in need. When people say, “sorry for your loss”, we feel it. It is truly a loss for all. We love and miss you Popa.
