Edward "Ned" Harold Olsen

Edward (Ned) Harold Olsen, 88 years old, of Macon, GA passed on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Ned was born January 16, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI. He attended Marquette College where he earned his degree in medicine. He began his career as a family practitioner in West Bend, WI and went on to complete a residency in Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He and his family returned to Milwaukee where he established a private practice in psychotherapy before joining the staff of Columbia hospital as Administrator of the Psychiatry Department.

Ned was a voracious reader and had a passion for learning new things. He loved sharing his knowledge and experience with others, which lead him to a teaching position at the Medical College of Wisconsin. After retiring from Columbia Hospital, he returned to private practice.

In 2004, Ned moved to Macon and provided psychiatric services to several agencies. Most recently, River Edge in Forsyth and Crossroads Christian Counseling Center in Macon.

Ned loved classical music and opera and could often be seen conducting the stereo. He regularly attended the MET Opera showings at the Douglass Theater.

Ned was preceded in death by his son Daniel Olsen and survived by his children, Sue Evans (Dave), Anne Clancy (Bob), Thomas Olsen (Caroline), Ted Olsen (Betsy Abts), Ariana Olsen, and Sebastian Olsen, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at Carlyle Place, 5300 Zebulon Road, Macon.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for care given to our father by the staff at Carlyle Place and Coliseum Medical Center. A special thanks to Kay Allen for her devotion to our father and the companionship she provided.
